Course Description

Public Address & General Alarm (PAGA) Systems play an extremely important role in critical infrastructure such as offshore oil rigs, FPSOs, marine vessels, power plants, airports and train stations. They facillitate the effective communicatioin of important information in case of an emergency. It is also useful for effective operation of such facilities.

Intercom systems or Page/ Party systems are added as part of the PAGA in most instances to allow two way communication. The system almost always require compliance to a code such as ABS, DNV classification societies (for marine and offshore projects) and local codes such as SS506-2019 in Singapore. Systems typically declare compliance to EN54-24 as the PAGA system is used for broadcasting fire alarms.

This course equips engineers and technicians with the required knowledge to design PAGA systems firstly based on audibility and intelligibility criteria and then on system sizing up. Key aspects such as redundancy of critical components, avoiding single point failures and achieving a good balance of price to performance is focused.

After completing the system engineers and technicians will be able to easily understand client and authority requirements and provide a complying solution. They will also learn about different types of systems such as distributed systems, central systems, IP systems and analog systems.
