Metocean Monitoring Systems
- Nalin Withana |
METOCEAN Monitoring System is a word that combines Meteorological Monitoring System and Oceanography Systems. They typically measure wind speed & direction, temperature, relative humidity, barometric pressure as a minimum. Additional sensors measure visibility, present weather condition, precipitation, cloud height and cloud base. Oeanograhical sensors measure surface current speed, wave height, wave period, wave direction and current profile.
The systems typically supplied to offshore installations which operate a helideck are required to comply to CAP437 requirements. They measure and report the required parameters in an acceptable format that allows a decision to be made if it is safe to land a helicopter in a given weather condition. The system has a helideck motion sensor as well and usually interfaces with the Gyro Compass and GPS.
This course equips engineers and technicians with the required knowledge to design METOCEAN systems based on operational and regulatory requirements.
After completing the course engineers and technicians will be able to easily understand client and authority requirements and provide a complying solution. They will also be able to easily understand manufacturer literature and test and commission METOCEAN Systems.
